Edward Steichen Exhibition

(Milan) Attended the Edward Steichen opening at Galleria Carla Sozzani this past Saturday eve.  The gallery is set inside a beautiful courtyard in an old industrial building, known to most, as Corso Como 10,which is particularly magical at night when it's all lit up. The exhibition featured Steichen's portrait collection from his days at Condé Nast Publication, during the 20's and 30's, when he was chief photographer for Vanity Fair and Vogue. His portraits for Vanity Fair brought him fame, at least in part because of the status of such celebrity subjects while Vogue allowed him to grow as a high fashion photographer. My most favorite photo in this collection is of actress, Gloria Swanson draped with an evocative veil of black lace. Oh and of course his portrait of Greta Garbo. But outside of his portrait and fashion photography, I still very much adore his classic cityscape of New York City's Flatiron building. (not part of this show) Be sure to stop by the bookstore which has a plethora of art, design, fashion, architecture, graphic books and probably one of the largest selection of photography books here in Milan. I literally could spend hours there.....

The show is on display till February 12, 2012.
